Saudi doctors successfully separated Yemeni conjoined twins after a "complex" 15-hour surgery, according to the official media cited by the "Agence France-Presse."
A team of 24 specialists from neurology, plastic surgery, and anesthesia participated in the separation of the boys, Youssef and Yassin, who were "connected in several organs," according to the Saudi Press Agency ("SPA").
Doctors at the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Work carried out the separation surgery in "four stages" and described it as one of the "most complex surgeries" they have ever performed, according to SPA.
The doctors stated that the twins were transferred to the pediatric intensive care unit, where they are under "intensive care and monitoring, especially for Yassin, whose condition is critical."
In July 2021, Saudi doctors succeeded in separating parasitic Yemeni twins, highlighting that it was the fiftieth surgery they have performed to separate conjoined twins.
