Paris Saint-Germain has announced the signing of Spanish star Sergio Ramos, the former captain and defender of Real Madrid, to strengthen its defense during the current summer transfer window. PSG published an official statement on its website to confirm the signing of Ramos, who will wear shirt number 4. The French club wrote: "Officially, Sergio Ramos will wear his traditional number 4 shirt at Paris Saint-Germain, and he expressed his happiness in finding this number."
In comments made to the club’s official channel, Ramos said: "This number 4 is very significant to me because I have had it since the beginning of my career; it has accompanied me throughout my life, brought me luck, and many victories. Now, number 4 is part of me as a person and in my professional life."
Ramos continued discussing number 4, adding, "For me, it is an honor to wear this number in such a beautiful team as Paris Saint-Germain. Therefore, it will definitely be wearing my number here in Paris."
Ramos arrived in the French capital on Wednesday morning with his family to undergo a medical examination at PSG, after which he signed a contract with the club. He agreed to a two-year contract after arriving as a free transfer from Real Madrid.
Ramos will be one of the key players under coach Mauricio Pochettino, and he will reunite with former teammates like Keylor Navas and Di Maria. Numerous reports indicate that Ramos will earn a salary estimated at 21 million euros over the two seasons, approximately 10.5 million euros per season.
Ramos left Real Madrid after both parties failed to reach an agreement that would allow the captain to continue at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, as Ramos insisted on not reducing any part of his salary. Florentino Perez wanted to cut Ramos's salary by 10% and renew the contract of the former Real Madrid defender for one more year, in line with the policy for players over 30 years old.
Ramos’s arrival at PSG marks the third major transfer in the current market, following the signing of Wijnaldum and the announcement of Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan star who joined the French club on Tuesday to strengthen the right-back position.
