A shopper revealed the hidden meaning behind the codes found on fruit labels. Joshua Pollom took to TikTok to share some little-known information, which could be very useful for those concerned about consuming genetically modified products or pesticide-grown foods.
Joshua explained his theory using the codes on an apple, a lemon, and an orange. He stated that if a label has a four-digit number, it indicates that the fruit was grown with pesticides, while a five-digit number starting with eight typically means it is genetically modified.
In the video, which has been viewed over 3 million times, Joshua said, "I’m sure many of you eat fruit, and whenever you buy fruit, you always see these little labels on them. Well, these little labels actually tell you how the fruit is grown."
He further explained, "These numbers mean different things, so a four-digit number means the fruit was grown with pesticides, and a five-digit number that starts with eight usually means it is genetically modified."
He added, "Typically, a five-digit number starting with nine means the fruits are organically grown. In short, look for the magic number nine if you only want to consume environmentally friendly products."
Many commenters on the video were astonished by this information they were learning for the first time. One commenter said, "I wish I had seen this video 15 minutes ago because I'm 100% sure that the shiny apple I just ate is bad." Another commenter remarked, "I'm amazed at how many people don't believe this. I thought this was known by now."
