"Forces" Define Government Head Qualifications

Economic expert and member of the Strong Lebanon Bloc, MP Razi al-Haj, believes that what Lebanon needs most during this time of multiple crises, particularly the economic collapse, is a government that carries a genuine rescue program to pull the country out of hell. Any government outside this framework and lacking sovereign qualifications would be a waste of time, leading the Lebanese further down the infernal scale. He argues that national unity governments and those with political contradictions have proven to be failures, producing nothing but calamities and tragedies, and therefore could not achieve any necessary accomplishments to navigate through this difficult phase. He noted that the government's lifespan, if constitutional deadlines for the presidential election are respected, would be only a few months, not exceeding the number of fingers on one hand.

In a statement to "Anbaa," al-Haj confirmed that the Lebanese Forces party will not participate in a national unity government with political adversaries, as it would create a government divided within itself on the country’s general strategies, the most important being state sovereignty, defense policy, foreign policy, and Lebanese-Gulf relations. He highlighted the lack of seriousness from the resistance team in implementing reforms and taking responsibility for the financial and economic crisis afflicting the country, stemming from the dubious policies of this team and its regional projects that do not serve Lebanon's interests.

In response to a question, al-Haj pointed out that the ministerial statement must feature clear sovereign and reform-oriented titles, primarily focusing on implementing reforms and launching a recovery plan, and secondly addressing the international community and Lebanon's supporting countries to affirm the state’s regaining of its political decision and its independence from regional powers, as well as its commitment to the resolutions of Arab and international legitimacy. He stressed that only constitutional texts represent the sovereign team's weapon in facing the reality of the situation, both in forming the government and in drafting the ministerial statement.

Regarding the qualifications for the head of government, al-Haj noted that the criteria set by the Lebanese Forces for electing the Speaker of the Parliament also apply to naming the Prime Minister and to the upcoming president of the Republic. The most important qualification is that the individual must be a true sovereign in every sense of the word and a genuine captain capable of steering the Lebanese ship out of turmoil and towards safety and stability.

When asked about the possibility of forming a government amidst pre-existing disagreements over its leadership and structure, al-Haj expressed his personal belief, which may not represent others in the Strong Lebanon Bloc, that Lebanon will have a government. However, regardless of its content, it may not gain the confidence of the Parliament, effectively turning it into a caretaker government instead of the current one, continuing in that state until a new president is elected.
