Today, the list of players nominated for the Champions League Player of the Week award was announced, following the conclusion of the first leg of the Round of 16 in the tournament.
The list released by UEFA today includes four players, from whom the winner will be chosen through a public vote. Among the nominees is Polish star Robert Lewandowski, forward for Bayern Munich, who scored the first goal in the Bavarian team's 4-1 victory over Italy’s Lazio in the first leg of the Round of 16. Notably, Lewandowski was awarded the "Man of the Match" title for his outstanding performance in the game.
The list also features French star Olivier Giroud from Chelsea, who scored the winning goal for the Blues against Spain's Atlético Madrid in the first leg of their matchup. Additionally, it includes French player Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid, who scored the winning goal for the royal team against Italy’s Atalanta in their first leg.
Lastly, the list has Portuguese player João Cancelo from Manchester City, who assisted the first goal for City against Germany’s Borussia Mönchengladbach with a stunning cross to Bernardo Silva, who scored the goal, contributing to the Citizens' 2-0 victory in the first leg.
