The disagreement over the value of the customs dollar has resurfaced, including who sets its price and the government's responsibility—which is currently lacking in this regard—along with its connection to the budget, which is facing issues related to numbers and sizes. The American Ambassador Dorothy Shea has been engaged in this matter, which was discussed during her visit with Finance Minister Youssef Khalil of the caretaker government, following the "Shiite duo's" opposition to burden him alone with the pressures resulting from such a decision.
However, the worst aspect of the situation is that some traders and beneficiaries are seizing the opportunity and aggressively diving into the black market to raise the dollar exchange rate in line with their daily demands for green currency to purchase goods consumed by the citizens, reaping substantial profits as prices rise. This has created an abnormal pressure on the demand for dollars, which records increases from one hour to the next every day, altering prices in supermarkets and even small shops.
