The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Sunday that the international coalition arrested two leaders of ISIS in the Raqqa countryside. The observatory stated that coalition forces carried out an airborne operation in the village of Sheneena in Raqqa province, arresting two ISIS members along with several women. The observatory also mentioned the death of a civilian who was near the site at the time of the operation and raid.
Additionally, the U.S. military announced on Friday that a prominent al-Qaeda leader killed in an airstrike in the Idlib region of northwestern Syria days ago was Salim Abu Ahmad. The drone strike targeted a vehicle on the road from Idlib to Binnish in the northeastern part of the province on September 20, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which reported the deaths of leaders from a faction close to al-Qaeda. The U.S. military confirmed at the time that it killed a leader in al-Qaeda but did not disclose his identity. For his part, U.S. Central Command spokesman John Riggsbee revealed in a statement that Salim Abu Ahmad was responsible for planning, funding, and approving al-Qaeda attacks across the region. The statement added that there were no indications of civilian casualties resulting from the strike.
