Basil: The President is a Full Partner in the Government Formation Process

The head of the "Free Patriotic Movement," MP Gibran Basil, welcomed the "numerous reforms we have proposed in the report of the European Union's delegation on the elections," following a meeting of the political council in "the Movement." He stated, "We must pause at what was mentioned in the European report, which clearly addressed the issue of money in elections and the recommendations it included. We have previously fought battles for this, most notably the mega-center and empowering the supervisory authority to become an independent entity capable of fulfilling the required role."

Regarding the port explosion, and with a month to go before the second anniversary, he noted that "the deliberate stalemate continues to conceal the truth, and the report that would allow insurance companies to pay out merits has not been issued, while the file of those wrongfully detained remains ongoing."

On the issue of maritime borders, he said: "There is a serious opportunity, and the Movement is fully seizing it. The gap in disagreement is narrowing, but the answers are still unclear. We must solidify the Kana-Karish equation, and more importantly, we should ensure that we are allowed to explore for resources. This is the right time for Lebanon to pursue fair diplomatic solutions while leveraging its strengths; we are not weak."

Basil emphasized that "the President is a full partner in the government formation process, regardless of the Movement's position, and has the right to express an opinion on all ministries, regardless of their sects and denominations, as does the Prime Minister." He assured that "the Movement supports a government that does not evade addressing the issue of the governorship of the Central Bank of Lebanon, the investigation into the port explosion that needs a political decision, the file of displaced individuals, and the recovery plan along with the four known laws related to it: capital control, restructuring the banks, the budget, and banking secrecy, in addition to the issue of borders."
