The official website of the Asian Football Confederation announced today, Sunday, that Iranian player Mehdi Ghayedi has been awarded the title of Best Young Player in Asia for the year 2020, after accumulating the highest number of points through public voting and expert opinions, surpassing his compatriot Mehdi Abdi Qara and South Korean player Won Do-jai, who came in third.
Star player Mehdi Ghayedi shone with the Iranian national team at the Under-23 Asian Championship in Thailand last year, and then participated in a match against Uzbekistan in October, followed by a second international match against Bosnia where he scored his first international goal.
Mehdi Ghayedi performed impressively last year, scoring 3 goals in 5 matches with Esteghlal FC, as well as scoring for the team in the final of the Iran Hazfi Cup.
Mehdi Ghayedi (Esteghlal/Iran) scored 24.40 points, followed by Mehdi Abdi Qara (Persepolis/Iran) with 21.37 points, then Won Do-jai (Ulsan Hyundai/South Korea) with 16.20 points, followed by Takehiro Tomiyasu (Bologna/Japan) in fourth place with 7.83 points, and Takefusa Kubo (Real Mallorca/Japan) in fifth place with 6.71 points.
It is noteworthy that the winners were determined after the participation of hundreds of thousands of readers of the AFC website, along with votes from independent experts, including Maika Church, Wael Jaber, and Roushan Ray. The voting was allocated with 60% from website visitors and 40% from experts.
