The official spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, stated today that the Kremlin completely rejects the pressure of sanctions imposed by the United States.
Peskov told reporters, "We continuously see reactions from American lawmakers regarding sanctions. We consider such methods completely unacceptable in general in bilateral relations from the perspective of some kind of sanction pressure. As far as we understand, there are still some discussions in the United States in this regard." He noted that this situation is not a reason for an urgent response from the head of state, but it may be raised in the context of a free conversation at some event, if this issue remains unchanged.
Earlier, a press release from American senators confirmed that a group of members of the Senate introduced a bill to Congress to impose sanctions against individuals in Russia due to the imprisonment of opposition figure Alexei Navalny. The proposed legislation suggests that the US administration determines whether Russia has violated international laws regarding chemical weapons. It also proposes taking a stance on the murder of opposition politician Boris Nemtsov. If the administration decides that certain officials have violated international law, the bill suggests imposing sanctions against them.
