Russian Attack Continues: Air Raid Sirens Sound Across Most of Ukraine

As Russian military operations in Ukraine persist, air raid sirens echoed across most regions of the country this morning. Local media reported that sirens for airstrikes were heard in most Ukrainian cities early on Saturday morning, urging people to seek shelter. Several Ukrainian media outlets reported hearing the sirens in the capital, Kyiv, the western city of Lviv, Kharkiv, Cherkasy, and the Sumy region in the northeast.

It appears that Russian forces reorganized on Friday to launch a possible attack on Kyiv, as satellite images showed those forces firing artillery while advancing toward the Ukrainian capital. The Russian military has focused its attacks on Kyiv and eastern Ukraine, expanding its assault to include the large city of Dnipro.

The Ukrainian military stated that the capital, alongside Mariupol on the Sea of Azov, Kryvyi Rih, Kremenchuk, Nikopol, and Zaporizhia, are the key areas where Russian forces are still concentrating their efforts. They added that "the Russian army is unable to achieve success and continues its missile and bomb attacks on cities deep within Ukrainian territory, including Dnipro, Lutsk, and Ivano-Frankivsk."

Images from Maxar Technologies showed the continued advance of Russian forces toward the Ukrainian capital, and the company released photos of a fire at Antonov Airport in Hostomel, near Kyiv, as well as images of burning homes in towns northwest of Kyiv.
