In a tweet on his Twitter account, the Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, congratulated the Egyptian young man, Mustafa Kandil, who founded a company in Dubai valued at over $1.5 billion, which was listed on the Nasdaq Dubai exchange on Wednesday evening. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid tweeted: "Mustafa Kandil.. a 28-year-old Arab youth who was able to build a company in Dubai valued at over one and a half billion dollars, listed on Nasdaq.. the company (SWVL) for smart mass transit solutions operates in many countries.. Congratulations, Mustafa.. Dubai will remain a platform for all ambitious Arab youth seeking global recognition."
So, who is this Egyptian young man? He is 28 years old and co-founded the mass transit company "SWVL" in March 2017 in Egypt when he was just 24 years old. He received a Bachelor's degree in Energy and Petroleum Engineering in 2014 from the American University in Cairo. During his studies, he interned at Schlumberger oil company and also worked as a teaching assistant at the American University in Cairo in 2014. He served as the Operations Manager at Rocket Internet from 2015 to 2016 and as the Global Project Development Manager in the same company in 2014. Additionally, he was responsible for launching Careem in new markets between 2016 and 2017, and has been a member of the advisory board at the Dubai Economic Council for Digital Economy since June 30, 2021. He was ranked among Forbes' list of the most influential Arab youth in 2018.
His founded company, within just four years, has become a leader in the mass transit sector, operating in 10 countries with over 1.4 million riders and 46 million trips to date, with thousands of drivers on its digital platform.
