The Egyptian prosecution has decided to detain five children on charges of killing a young man with water bags in Ismailia Governorate, located in the east of the country. Major General Mansour Lashin, the Director of Ismailia Security, received a notification regarding the death of a forty-year-old man named Hisham Zakaria, who worked as a manager at a tourism company, due to a heart attack. He was sitting in a café in the Old University area when he was surprised by children throwing water bags at him. He quickly chased after them but fell and passed away.
The public prosecutor announced in an official statement on Sunday evening that five children, aged between fifteen and eighteen, have been detained pending an investigation for intentionally assaulting the young man, leading to his death, and exhibiting force and using it against him with the intent to cause harm.
The prosecution interrogated the five children involved in the crime and discovered that they had agreed to throw plastic bags filled with water at passersby for fun. One of them threw a bag at the deceased while he was sitting in a café in Ismailia, striking his face, which prompted him to scold them and pursue them. However, he collapsed and was taken to the hospital where he died.
The prosecution has decided to detain the five defendants for four days in preparation for further investigations.
