A Canadian study conducted on 34,000 people across 24 countries regarding "smartphone addiction" revealed that the Chinese rank first as the most smartphone-dependent people. The research paper, prepared by researchers from McGill University, was published in the journal "Computers in Human Behavior". The study began in 2014 and concluded in 2020.
The study indicated that the Chinese, followed by Saudis and Malaysians, are among the most affected by smartphone addiction, while Germans and French were at the bottom of the list. The research paper stated: "We conducted an analysis of problematic smartphone usage behaviors, particularly among the youth; the use of smartphones with problems has increased globally, and we expect this trend to continue."
The paper noted that those who suffer from this type of addiction are typically aged between 15 and 35 years, with 40% being men and 60% being women being more attached and using their smartphones more frequently. Researchers added that smartphone addiction has serious implications related to daily, social, and psychological life, and it also affects job performance, marking it as a globally growing problem.
