French Warning to Lebanon Regarding the IMF

Diplomatic sources from the French capital told the newspaper "Al-Jumhouria" that the manner in which the parliamentary elections were conducted was disappointing, as it was marked by many flaws that are regrettable. The sources warned against "following the same previous approach that wasted many opportunities and deepened Lebanon's crisis further." They stated, "France and other friendly countries to Lebanon are committed to assisting the Lebanese people and alleviating their suffering. The Lebanese government, which we hope will be formed soon, bears the responsibility of implementing an urgent rescue program. Lebanese people must realize that the opportunity with the International Monetary Fund may diminish if the Fund perceives hesitation or that the prospects in Lebanon are closed, and that the authorities of this country are either unable or unwilling to provide the requirements to exit the crisis and achieve a cooperation program with the IMF. There is a reform roadmap that the Lebanese government must pursue to certainly gain the trust of the international community."
