Bayern Munich Wins and Strengthens Its Lead in the Bundesliga

The "Impuls Arena" hosted the match between Bayern Munich and its host Augsburg as part of the seventeenth round of the German Bundesliga.

Bayern Munich achieved a tough victory against Augsburg with a score of 1-0. The Polish star Robert Lewandowski scored Bayern's goal in Augsburg's net just 12 minutes after the start of the match via a penalty kick, raising his tally to 22 goals. This makes him the first player in Bundesliga history to score this number of goals in the first half of the competition.

Augsburg's crossbar denied Lewandowski a second goal in the 43rd minute of the match. In the second half, the home team missed a penalty kick taken by Alfred Finnbogason, as his shot hit the right post of Bayern's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer in the 76th minute.

Notably, with this result, Bayern Munich strengthened its lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings this season with 39 points, while Augsburg remained stagnant at 19 points in twelfth place. Additionally, the Bavarian team secured the title of winter champion in Germany after their victory in the previous round against Freiburg, marking the 24th time Bayern Munich has finished the first half of the Bundesliga at the top of the table.
