Continuous Water Interruption: Reasons and Updates

The Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Establishment issued the following statement: "As the institution had promised subscribers in the southern Beirut area who are supplied with water from the 1200 line to rectify the major malfunction that occurred on this line mid-week, it is its duty and commitment to transparency to inform subscribers, particularly and Lebanese citizens in general, about the technical developments that prevented the resumption of water supply as scheduled. The institution, in collaboration with UNICEF, has nearly completed the repair of the malfunction, as it began conducting tests on the 1200 line. However, these tests revealed that while the main malfunction was repaired, there was a water leak at another location due to the wear and tear affecting the line, which was established over fifty years ago. This requires replacing a large section of the 1200 line. Accordingly, funding and securing all necessary equipment has been confirmed, which will take approximately two weeks.

However, the institution will not remain stagnant; it will maneuver on six of the main supply lines to enable water delivery to the main reservoir in Burj Abu Haidar, and thus gradually resume distribution to the areas of Hadath, Mosaitbeh, Zoqaq al-Blat, Abdullah Khaled, Hamra, Ain al-Mreisseh, Bashoura, and Basta. The institution affirms that it shares the subscribers' frustration over the current situation due to circumstances beyond its control. However, it assures that it will not waver in the face of this difficult circumstance and will seek to provide as many rapid technical and engineering solutions as possible, extending its gratitude to UNICEF and to those who communicate with the institution from parliamentary activities and local authorities. It reiterates its call for collective efforts and cooperation among all relevant parties to find sustainable solutions."
