Dubai International Airport is preparing for what could be the busiest weekend yet this year, with the airport expected to handle more than one million passengers over the next 11 days (August 12 to 22), averaging 100,000 passengers daily during weekends. This increase is due to the seasonal peak at the end of the summer holiday coinciding with families returning to the UAE and the state’s easing of travel regulations for incoming and transit passengers from several Asian and African countries, including India, along with the UK's decision to move the UAE to the "Amber List."
According to Issa Al Shamsi, Vice President of Operations at Dubai Airports: "We are ready and are doing our best to ensure that passengers have a safe and smooth experience at Dubai International Airport. However, due to recent changes in travel requirements, which can often vary depending on the point of origin and destination, travelers can make a significant difference in their airport experience by following a few simple rules and tips."
He added: "Given that the number of passengers will be significantly higher in the arrivals area during this period, it is essential that greeters do not create congestion on the road in front of the terminal and greet their arriving friends and family comfortably by using the parking lots and valet service." Dubai Airports encouraged travelers to check the latest travel regulations.
In related news, Bloomberg reported that Dubai offers a comfortable travel experience amid the pandemic for arrivals from 32 major cities, according to data from the "Travel Reopening Index," which monitors current travel trends to and from 40 global cities and the restrictions currently imposed regarding receiving travelers in these cities.
The classification system for cities categorizes the travel experience into four levels: best, moderate, worst, and entirely closed to travelers. The "moderate" classification indicates that entry is allowed for travelers from the remaining 39 major cities with reasonable precautionary measures in place to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
The index stated that Dubai offers a moderate experience for arrivals from Athens, Auckland, Bangkok, Beijing, Brussels, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Macau, Madrid, Mexico City, Miami, Milan, Nassau (Capital of the Bahamas), New York, Paris, Reykjavik, Riyadh, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto, Vienna, Washington, and Zurich.
