Reports indicate that the giant American e-commerce company plans to incorporate a lot of technology and electronic systems into its stores. The Wall Street Journal cited informed sources claiming that the company is exploring ways to integrate online shopping experiences with physical stores. The anticipated equipment will allow customers to request clothing for fitting using QR Code technology, for instance. They may also use a touchscreen that will recommend other items for them to try on.
The technology-focused site CNET noted that Amazon might employ robotics and other types of self-operating systems in the stores, although the Wall Street Journal pointed out that Amazon has not finalized plans for this development.
An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment on the news, stating in an email to CNET, "As part of the company's policy, we do not comment on rumors or speculation."
Media reports had also mentioned last August that Amazon intends to open stores in Ohio and California to sell items such as clothing and electronic devices.
