To Students in Lebanon: The Second Session is Coming Up… Get Ready

With the new school year approaching, rumors are circulating among the approximately 20,000 failing students about the possibility of not holding the exceptional second session, especially amidst a caretaker government and a public sector strike. Contrary to these rumors, the head of the official examination department in the Ministry of Education, Amal Chahab, reassured students via mtv that the exceptional session will take place and all arrangements are in place to carry it out, emphasizing that it is their right.

She explained that the exceptional session requires special approval from the Council of Ministers, revealing that a decree will be issued and signed by both President Michel Aoun and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

Chahab announced that the second session is expected to occur in late August, after the issuance of the memorandum, taking into account the announcement of the application submission period.

Regarding the readiness of the examination department in the Ministry of Education to manage the exams, Chahab confirmed, "We are ready on all fronts with logistics and equipment supplies, including stationery and others," adding, "We have the candidate numbers, and we have prepared the centers and distributed the monitors."

However, what about the strike of the ministry's employees, and could it hinder the exam process? Chahab asserted that the educational unions are committed to finishing the school year, hence they are obligated to conduct the second session, after having completed the first session, especially since the fees for the monitors, correctors, and administrative staff are secured through part of the allocations disbursed from the treasury and part paid "in fresh dollars" from donor entities.

Regarding the release of results, Chahab stated that they will be issued within a week or ten days at most after the exams conclude. Therefore, the exams will definitely take place, and students should prepare for them by the end of this month.
