The Union of Bent Jbeil District has warned wheat farmers in the areas of Bent Jbeil and Marjayoun about the emergence of types of caterpillars that cause significant damage to wheat fields.
According to a statement from the union, reported by the National News Agency, recent observations in the Bent Jbeil and Marjayoun regions have indicated the presence of cutworms affecting wheat, particularly the local variety, leading to considerable damage to the foliage. The union urged farmers to pay attention to their fields and, if necessary, combat this pest using one of the following pesticides: spraying with the harmless natural bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis, deltamethrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, or alpha-cypermethrin. The union's statement highlighted that the agricultural office of the Union of Municipalities of Bent Jbeil will conduct a survey of wheat fields in the union's villages to assess the extent of this pest's spread and assist in providing the necessary treatment. The statement also called on municipalities to inform the union if any symptoms appear in wheat fields in their towns and to communicate with the union to assess the extent of this infestation.
