A military statement from Egypt reported yesterday (Monday) that the naval forces of the Egyptian army successfully rescued a crew of 10 people who were on board a Lebanese cargo ship before it sank off the coast of Alexandria in the Mediterranean Sea.
The official page of Egyptian military spokesperson Colonel Arkan Harb Gharib Abdel Hafiz stated that "continuing the efforts of the naval forces in supporting search and rescue operations in all strategic directions along the Egyptian coasts, the naval forces succeeded in rescuing the crew of a cargo ship after it faced sinking off the coast of Alexandria."
It was clarified that the Alexandria Port Authority reported that the Lebanese cargo ship "AYLA" was in danger of sinking while on its journey from the port of Tripoli in Libya to the port of Alexandria, carrying a crew of 10 individuals (9 Syrians and 1 Indian).
According to the Egyptian statement, the naval command sent the rescue ship "Al-Arish" from the Alexandria naval base to provide assistance and rescue operations. The forces succeeded in saving the entire crew of the ship and providing them with the necessary medical and administrative care before handing them over to the relevant authorities to take all necessary legal actions.
