The Al Arabiya news channel reported that Iraqi security forces have arrested the perpetrator of the attack on Baghdad International Airport, named Akram Al-Qaisi. Al Arabiya’s sources indicated that Al-Qaisi is affiliated with armed militias. The attack on the airport caused material damage to a runway and two empty civilian aircraft parked on the tarmac.
In exclusive statements to Al Arabiya, Iraqi Defense Minister Jumaa Anad Saadun stated that the Iraqi Defense Ministry issued clear orders not to allow any entity to undermine the army. The Defense Minister noted that significant information has been obtained regarding the perpetrators of recent attacks, confirming that there are no foreign combat forces in the country.
Jumaa Anad also pointed out that those who target state institutions are organizations that are terrorist and hostile, expressing readiness to confront that threat. Regarding the political aspect, the Iraqi Defense Minister assured Al Arabiya that there are no political interventions in the work of the military institution. He emphasized that Iraq requires three years of air support and advice from international coalition forces, and that the convoys of the international coalition being targeted carry equipment for Iraqi forces.
