The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen has denied the authenticity of a video released by the Houthi movement on Saturday, which claims to show its fighters infiltrating a border area in Saudi Arabia, describing it as "media fabrication." Saudi state television reported coalition spokesman Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki stating, "The Houthi militia's claim of conducting a military operation on the Jazan border is media fabrication." Al-Maliki indicated that the Houthis' "false victories" aim to cover up the significant military losses the group has suffered in the Marib and Al-Jawf provinces of Yemen.
The war, which entered its seventh year in March, has seen a military stalemate for years, with the Houthis controlling most of northern Yemen. The United Nations and the United States are pressuring for a ceasefire agreement to end the conflict, widely viewed as a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran. Some footage released by Al-Masirah TV on Telegram showed men in military uniforms under attack as they fled down steep, rugged slopes. Reuters was unable to independently verify the credibility of this footage. Sudanese soldiers have been deployed as part of the Saudi-led military coalition, which intervened in Yemen in March 2015 after the Houthis ousted the internationally recognized government from the capital, Sana'a.
