Moscow: Destruction of Foreign Weapons in Attack on Ukrainian Yavoriv Base

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday that it carried out an attack on a training facility at the Yavoriv base in western Ukraine, near the Polish border. Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov stated that this facility receives weapons from abroad, confirming the destruction of a large quantity of foreign weapons within it. He also explained that this facility housed 180 mercenaries, announcing that a significant number of them were killed today. He added that "the elimination of foreign mercenaries arriving in Ukraine will continue."

Earlier in the day, the governor of Lviv announced that Russia launched 30 missiles at the military base in Yavoriv near the city of Lviv in western Ukraine. He confirmed the deaths of 35 individuals and injuries to 60 others from the Russian airstrike. Additionally, a reporter for Al Arabiya/Al Hadath stated that Russia suspects the base, which was previously a training center for peacekeeping forces, has turned into a supply site for Ukrainian forces receiving weapons from Western countries and NATO.

For his part, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov described the targeting of the base in a tweet as a terrorist act, confirming that foreign advisors are working at that base in western Ukraine. The military training facility, which is the largest in the western sector of the country, is usually used for joint military exercises with NATO and is located less than 25 kilometers from the Polish border.

It is noteworthy that since the onset of the Russian military operation on February 24, officials in Kyiv have been calling for the imposition of a no-fly zone over the country. However, NATO, which has seen unprecedented tensions with Moscow in recent weeks due to its support for Ukraine, has repeatedly rejected this request, asserting that such a move could ignite a wide-ranging conflict or even a third world war.
