Kazem Ghareeb Abadi, Deputy Head of the Judiciary for International Affairs in Iran, announced that Iraq has provided documents that were requested by Iranian authorities regarding the "terrorist crime" of the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard. Abadi made this statement after the conclusion of the third session of the joint committee investigating Soleimani's assassination and his companions, which took place over two days on Tuesday and Wednesday in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, as reported by the Iranian news agency IRNA.
Abadi stated that the joint statement issued from the Baghdad meeting included an agreement to "accelerate the pace of bilateral cooperation, including the exchange of documents and supplementary information to advance the judicial files in both countries, in order to verify the achievement of justice regarding this crime."
The statement emphasized "the completion of investigations in Iran and Iraq concerning the different aspects of this crime, with the aim of imposing fair penalties on all defendants as soon as possible."
Additionally, the joint statement, according to Abadi, included "taking all necessary measures by both sides to pursue, prosecute, and punish all those involved in issuing the order, planning, or executing this criminal act."
Abadi revealed that the Iranian Prosecutor's Office is expected to submit the relevant indictment by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2022) concerning the crimes and charges against all involved in this crime, "regardless of their levels,” according to the Deputy Head of the Judiciary for International Affairs in Iran.
