Dubai's Health Authority has revealed that 79.4% of the emirate’s population is of working age (between 20 and 59 years old), while the population has increased by 1.64%. The vast majority of the emirate's community is young, with a higher male to female ratio across most age groups. According to a recent statistical report from the Authority, the population of Dubai reached 3,411,200 in 2020, an increase of 55,300 from 2019 (equivalent to 1.64%), with a growth rate of 16.2% per 1,000 residents.
The report indicates that the male population constitutes 69%, compared to 31% females, and children under the age of 14 make up 14.8% of the population. The age of 58.5% of Dubai's residents ranges from 25 to 44 years, reflecting an increase in this age group, albeit a slight decrease compared to 2019. Additionally, those over 60 years old account for 2.4% of the population, indicating a youthful and continuously growing community, with a consistent male prevalence in all age groups. The percentage of the working-age population (20-59 years) stands at 79.42%.
The report also reveals that a total of 31,761 births occurred in Dubai, with a birth rate of 10.3% per 1,000 residents, marking an increase of 0.6% from a birth rate of 9.3 per 1,000 residents in 2019. There was, however, a decrease in the birth rate in 2020 compared to 2019, at a rate of 0.4% per 100,000 residents. Citizens accounted for 21% of all births, while non-citizens made up 79%. It was noted that 83% of births took place in private hospitals, compared to 17% in public hospitals, indicating a 3% decrease in births in public hospitals. The percentage of cesarean deliveries was 14% of total births in the authority's hospitals, while 86% were in private hospitals.
The total number of deaths in 2020 was 3,480, with a death rate of 1.02 per 1,000 residents, compared to a death rate of 0.83% in 2019. Among the deceased were 144 children under five years old, accounting for 4%, while 1,341 deaths (39.5%) were recorded in those aged over 60, of which 995 were non-citizens, representing 28.6% of deaths in this age group. An analysis of deaths by nationality showed that 85% were non-citizens, while 15% were citizens. Males constituted 76.6% of fatalities, compared to 23.4% female.
