Syrian Observatory: 6 Government Forces Killed in Blast in Daraa

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 6 elements of the Syrian government forces were killed on Thursday morning in an explosion targeting a military vehicle in Daraa province, southern Syria. The observatory clarified that a captain from the 112th division of the government forces was among the deceased, along with five others, while two others were injured following the targeting of their vehicle by an explosive device on the Shabrak road between the towns of Nafaa and Ain Zakher in western Daraa countryside.

In a related incident, unidentified gunmen opened fire at a military checkpoint of the government forces south of the city of Dael in central Daraa during the midnight hours of Wednesday-Thursday, without reports of casualties. According to the statistics from the Syrian Observatory, the number of attacks and assassination attempts in Daraa and southern Syria, conducted in various forms and methods through explosive devices, mines, booby-trapped vehicles, and gunfire by armed cells from June 2019 has reached 1165 attacks and assassinations. The number of fatalities resulting from these attempts has reached 813, which includes 238 civilians, including children and women; 373 members of the government forces and allied militants; 143 fighters who made "settlements and reconciliations" and joined the government security forces, including former leaders; 27 members of Syrian militias affiliated with Hezbollah and Iranian militias; and 32 elements of the "Fifth Corps" supported by Russia.

It is worth noting that the Syrian government forces continue their siege of the old neighborhood in the city of Daraa, known as "Daraa al-Balad," conditioning the entry of their military and security forces into the neighborhood on the residents surrendering all weapons and that those who do not wish to settle leave for northern Syria.
