Ahmed Al Kaabi, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Petroleum, Gas, and Mineral Resources Sector at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, confirmed that despite the UAE's abundant oil reserves, it is one of the countries most focused on clean energy. He pointed out that the UAE began early in defining ambitious initiatives and visions for transitioning to a new phase focused on diversifying energy sources. To achieve future goals, the country launched the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, aiming to produce 50% of its energy needs from clean sources by relying on smart applications and modern technology.
In a statement made during the ministry's participation in the "Gastech" Conference and Exhibition, he highlighted the importance of being well-prepared for the next fifty years in the energy sector, considering it a vital sector supporting national economies and enhancing sustainable development, as well as being a key pillar for attracting foreign investments. He emphasized that good planning and quality initiatives represent the true bet for achieving future goals and the aspirations of the UAE's wise leadership, as well as a solid approach for achieving the global leadership that the nation seeks in various fields by the UAE Centennial 2071. To this end, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has outlined ambitious initiatives and plans for the coming ten years to advance in this vital sector towards more qualitative achievements.
He continued by stating that the UAE is a leading country in developing the renewable and clean energy sector, pioneering new methods and techniques to enhance energy efficiency, conserve natural resources, and find alternatives to traditional energy that support sustainable development. Confirming this commitment, the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 aims for a mix of renewable and clean energy sources to ensure a balance between economic needs and environmental goals, while reducing dependency on other fuel sources over the next three decades. He clarified that the UAE is confident that nuclear energy is the optimal choice to meet the growing energy demand; thus, they have been working on building the Barakah nuclear power plants, which will contribute to fulfilling the country's electricity needs and supporting sustainable development goals.

Additionally, the National Energy Strategy 2050 was highlighted, aiming to increase individual and institutional consumption efficiency by 40% and raise the contribution of clean energy to 50% of the total energy mix produced in the country by 2050, considering an annual demand growth of 6% and a 70% reduction in carbon emissions from electricity production over the next three decades.
