A Slovak engineering company has unveiled the world's first four-seat flying taxi, which could be used within five years. The AM NEXT model from AeroMobil, the second version of the supercar and light aircraft, is set to launch in 2027 and can transition between both modes in under three minutes. The company hopes this air transport service will save travelers a "significant" amount of time when traveling distances ranging from 100 to 500 miles between major cities, stating that passengers will be able to enjoy comfort and safety whether commuting for work, leisure, or simply to enjoy the view.
The AM NEXT is a development of the AeroMobil 4.0 flying car, first revealed at the Paris International Airshow held at Paris Le Bourget Airport in June 2017. This vehicle is designed to be a luxurious personal two-seater that can fly at a maximum speed of 223 miles per hour (360 km/h), with a maximum road speed of 99 miles per hour (160 km/h). In addition to the high price, ranging from 1.2 million to 1.5 million euros (1.3 million to 1.6 million dollars), owners also need a pilot's license to use it in the air.
The company aims to make personal transportation more efficient through its flying cars, providing an option for road or sky transport and eliminating traffic jams for good. AeroMobil stated that its flying car technology utilizes existing infrastructure (over 10,000 landing strips in the United States), fits into current car and aviation systems, and has a much greater range than an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle, according to the Daily Mail.
