Real Madrid... Why Did Real Madrid and Barcelona Enter in Black and Yellow?

Spanish club Barcelona achieved a surprising victory, winning 4-0 against their hosts Real Madrid, in the famous Spanish league "Clasico" on Sunday night. However, the Catalan team's four-goal performance was not the only thing that amazed fans worldwide; the choice of the teams' kits also raised eyebrows.

Historically, in "Clasico" matches, Real Madrid usually enters wearing their all-white kit, while Barcelona wears their primary kit, which is the blue and red striped shirt, a look we have grown accustomed to over the years. However, on Sunday night, we saw both teams donning "unfamiliar" colors, with Barcelona in all yellow and Real Madrid in all black.

#### Why Did Real Madrid Wear Black?

Real Madrid decided to wear an all-black kit to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the club's founding. The "Royal" team unveiled the black jersey days earlier in an artistic announcement from Adidas. The design of the shirt was created by Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, who incorporated traditional Japanese dances and clothing dominated by black in the unveiling announcement. Real Madrid's account stated after the launch of the new shirt: "A new jersey and a special collection to celebrate a special moment. Our 120th anniversary."

#### Why Did Barcelona Prefer Yellow?

For their part, Barcelona entered in their away kit, which is entirely yellow with some red stripes representing the flag of Catalonia. According to ESPN, wearing the "Catalonia flag" jersey was at the request of club president Joan Laporta. Laporta's choice may have been aimed at reinforcing the idea of Catalonia, promoting pride in the region, language, and flag as a distinct entity from the Spanish monarchy represented by Real Madrid.
