Former Liverpool star, Jamie Carragher, stated that he received a message from Argentine legend Lionel Messi in which he referred to him as a donkey. According to TalkSports, Carragher explained that Messi’s comment came after he preferred Mohamed Salah over him in his best team selection for 2021.
The former Liverpool legend mentioned that he had a debate at the beginning of the season regarding the transfers of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United and Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain, as he believes neither were remarkable signings for their respective teams.
Carragher added that Messi was unhappy with his remarks, stating, "That was during the show on the night of the selection, and I received a private message on Instagram from Messi... I won’t reveal private messages, but he called me a donkey."
He continued: "He watches the show on Monday night, so I hope he watches it on Friday night too because I love you very much, Lionel. You are the greatest player of all time, and I am a donkey if I compare myself to you; I accept that... but you were not in my best team this year."
Carragher concluded: "You did not play well enough, even if you won the Copa America in the summer... that's not enough for me to include you in the lineup over Mohamed Salah."
