After the incident involving a video of an Egyptian doctor forcing a nurse to bow to a dog recently sparked widespread anger, Egypt's Public Prosecutor, Hamada El-Sawy, ordered on Sunday evening the arrest of the doctor and a hospital employee for four days pending investigations into their involvement in the infamous video. The Public Prosecutor also decided to apprehend another doctor for allegedly bullying a nurse at the hospital, showcasing force, taking advantage of the nurse's weakness, and ridiculing him, as well as exploiting religion to promote extremist ideas aimed at inciting sedition and contempt for one of the heavenly religions.
In a statement, the Public Prosecutor indicated that the accused violated the principles and family values in Egyptian society, and disseminated through the internet a visual recording that infringed on the privacy of the victimized nurse. They used a specific account and platform to commit these crimes. The monitoring and analysis unit at the Public Prosecutor’s Office reported widespread circulation of a video on social media allegedly showing the doctor and two others assaulting a nurse inside a room at one of the hospitals.
The Public Prosecutor ordered the apprehension of the accused, leading to the arrest of the doctor and the employee visible in the recording. Upon interrogation, they denied the charges against them and justified their actions by claiming the victim was accustomed to their jokes and that of the unidentified accused who filmed the incident, which the victim denied.
The accused claimed that another individual hacked the doctor’s account on the WhatsApp messaging application, denying any knowledge of how the circulated video was published, while admitting the accuracy of the content and their presence in it. Despite his refusal to discuss the incident, the doctor made brief statements asserting that it was an old matter, and that hackers from a European country had breached his phone and used the video to extort money from him.
He stated that the last part of the video was fabricated and not real, describing the situation as extortion he has been subjected to for over two months, noting he has documents to verify this but has not filed a complaint with the relevant authorities regarding the theft of his personal account. Additionally, it was reported that the incident occurred in a large private hospital in Cairo where the doctor works, following a report from staff against the nurse, claiming he mocked the doctor and his dog after the doctor posted photos of himself walking with the dog during a summer vacation at a resort.
