Lebanon Participates in the Emergency Meeting of the Arab League Council

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the caretaker government, Charbel Wehbe, left Beirut today heading to Cairo to represent Lebanon in the emergency meeting of the Arab League Council, which will be held at the level of foreign ministers tomorrow, Monday. The agenda includes a discussion on Arab solidarity regarding the Palestinian cause.

Upon his arrival in Cairo, Wehbe will meet with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, to discuss the preparations made for the convening of the emergency session of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level and to ensure the success of its proceedings by achieving a unified Arab position that emphasizes the importance of adhering to the Arab Peace Initiative approved at the Beirut Summit in 2002. This initiative is based on the two-state solution, which involves the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, halting settlement activities, and affirming that any just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue must be based on the principle of land for peace, ensuring the right of return for Palestinian refugees, and reaffirming Lebanon's steadfast position regarding the Palestinian cause.

Wehbe will also hold a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Sameh Shoukry at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss the key shared issues concerning both countries and explore potential support and assistance that the Arab Republic of Egypt can provide to Lebanon during these unprecedented difficult circumstances.

The meeting is convened at the request of both Egypt and Jordan, and it is expected that those attending will agree on a unified position that ensures the protection of Arab national security, serves common Arab interests, enhances Arab solidarity, and reaffirms the established Arab principles regarding the Palestinian cause.
