Bodies Stuffed in Bags and Others Hanging from Bridges: The Most Terrifying City in the World

Fresnillo, a Mexican city, is considered one of the most terrifying places in the world, especially in recent times, where bodies have been found hanging from bridges and others stuffed in plastic bags in the streets. Residents are afraid of the night, with some saying they live in hell. According to a report by the American channel "Al-Hurra," despite a decrease in overall crime rates in Mexico last year due to lockdown measures aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus, murder rates have soared to record levels, particularly in cities controlled by drug cartels.

A survivor shared her horrific experiences with The New York Times, recounting how, about five years ago, bombs exploded outside her church in broad daylight. She described how men kidnapped children and vanished without a trace, with the bodies of those executed being thrown into the streets. She added that last month armed men broke into her home, took her 15-year-old son and two of his friends, and shot them, leaving her too scared to leave the house.

The mother, who requested anonymity, cried, "I don't want night to come. Living in fear is not a life at all." According to a recent survey by the Mexican National Statistics Agency, 96% of Fresnillo's 140,000 residents feel unsafe, the highest percentage in any city in Mexico. The New York Times noted that since the Mexican government began its war against drug cartels nearly 15 years ago, murder statistics have risen dramatically.

Victor Peña, who ran for mayor of Fresnillo in the June elections and witnessed one of his aides gunned down beside him during a campaign event, stated, "We are living in hell." According to "Euronews," there have been 14,243 murders recorded in Mexico since the beginning of this year, with one of the worst incidents occurring on June 19 when armed men killed 15 people in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. One of the arrested shooters claimed the massacre aimed to draw the authorities' attention to certain areas, diverting them from others.
