Famous American host Oprah Winfrey broke down in tears during a documentary while revealing a shocking detail about being raped as a child by her teenage cousin for four years. During an episode of "The Me You Can't See," alongside Prince Harry and Lady Gaga, Oprah stirred everyone’s emotions as she spoke for the first time about the painful ordeal she faced in her childhood when she was sexually assaulted by her cousin.
Oprah stated, "At age nine, ten, eleven, and twelve, I was raped by my 19-year-old cousin. I was a child and didn't comprehend what was happening to me," then she broke down in tears. She added, "I didn’t know what rape was; I certainly wasn’t aware of the word, had no idea about sex, no idea where babies came from, and I didn't even realize what he was doing to me."
The 67-year-old host continued, "It’s something I completely got over," stating that the experience taught her that a child is not safe in a world filled with men. Oprah spoke for the first time about the physical abuse she suffered in 1986 during her talk show, also clarifying that she had been abused by her mother’s friend at that time. She told The New York Times, "For a long time, I carried this burden and I was afraid to tell anyone because I thought it was my fault, but now I am braver about confronting it."
Oprah's remarks came during an episode of the documentary "The Me You Can't See," in which she appeared alongside Prince Harry, Lady Gaga, and Glenn Close, aiming to combat the stigma surrounding mental health and psychological illness.
