In what represents the third murder in Egypt under the guise of love in less than three months, a university student in Menoufia was shot dead by a young man who had proposed to her but was rejected, according to eyewitnesses speaking to Sky News Arabia. On Saturday evening, a young man named Ahmed Fathi killed a girl named Amani Abdel Karim by shooting her in the street in the village of Toukh Tanbasha in Menoufia province, north of Cairo.

Abu Hamza Al-Muslimi, a resident of the village, stated that the accused ambushed the girl as she left her home and shot her with a shotgun. He explained to Sky News Arabia that the girl was immediately taken by local residents to Barakat Al-Sab' Central Hospital, but she did not survive.

Mamdouh Al-Nadi, another local resident, shared that according to available information among the residents, the victim rejected the accused's marriage proposal, and he had approached her several times in the street, leading to her rebuffing him, which prompted him to take revenge.

He further informed Sky News Arabia that the victim was a fourth-year student in the Faculty of Physical Education and was 20 years old, while the accused holds a secondary school diploma and is approaching 30 years old. He emphasized that the girl and her family are well-known for their good reputation, which has cast a pall of sadness over the entire village, especially since there is a familial connection between the families of the accused and the victim.

An informed security source confirmed that the police cordoned off the village in search of the suspect who fled the scene, while the public prosecutor has initiated an investigation and ordered an autopsy of the victim's body.

It is noteworthy that on June 20, the Egyptian street witnessed a student at Mansoura University named Mohamed Adel murdering his colleague Naira Ashraf in the street in front of the university campus after she rejected his marriage proposal, and the court sentenced him to death, against which the renowned lawyer Farid El-Dib appealed on Saturday.
