Apple Watch Detects Woman's Illness Months Before Diagnosis

The Apple Watch is well-known for its numerous health features and has helped save many lives by alerting users to serious health issues early on. Recently, a TikTok user named Lauren revealed that the Apple Watch successfully identified symptoms of her thyroid disease months before she was officially diagnosed.

Lauren encourages users to enable health notifications on their Apple Watches, as the device managed to detect and record the deterioration in her health. Unfortunately, the notifications were not activated, and she only became aware of her illness months later when her symptoms worsened.

Lauren explained that if she had turned on the health notifications, her illness could have been diagnosed earlier. It seems that the wearable device identified symptoms of her thyroid disease, particularly changes in her heart rate.

Lauren also mentioned that a decrease in her oxygen consumption detected by the Apple Watch last October was linked to other symptoms she had begun experiencing at that time, such as fatigue, irritability, heat sensitivity, weight gain, and dry skin, according to Phone Arena.

She states that the Apple Watch would have essentially helped her notice that something was wrong before the symptoms intensified. However, she emphasizes that the Apple Watch is not a medical device, but it can be helpful in such situations.

Lauren adds, "Instead of waiting until the symptoms got really bad, I could have seen a doctor in October, when there was this dramatic decline within days. Don't get me wrong, the Apple Watch is certainly not something you should use for medical advice, but it can be useful, I believe, as a tool that prompts you to seek further investigation into some health issues."
