The Treasure of Vitamins and Disease Prevention: The Benefits of Fish Oil

Fish oil contains many vitamins and protects against various diseases, making it a treasure trove of benefits. Dr. Ekaterina Mikhailenko, a Russian nutrition expert, revealed that fish oil is beneficial for the eyes and enhances the body's immune system. She pointed out the changes that occur in the body as a result of consuming fish oil, which is rich in vitamin A, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids.

She states, "Vitamin A is essential for skin freshness, boosts the immune system, and promotes eye health. A deficiency in vitamin D leads to a disruption in the metabolism of potassium and phosphorus in the bones, ultimately resulting in osteoporosis." According to her, the best sources for obtaining fish oil are herring, halibut, mackerel, salmon, tuna, and cod. She mentions, "The amount of vitamins A and D in cod liver oil is very high; moreover, this oil contains potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. However, due to its high caloric content, it is advisable not to consume it excessively," as reported by Russia Today.

What is fish oil?

Fish oil is a type of natural oil with multiple health benefits, extracted from the tissues of fatty fish, such as herring, tuna, anchovies, mackerel, sardines, and salmon. Occasionally, it may also be extracted from the liver of other fish, as is the case with cod liver oil. Fish oil capsules are among the most common dietary supplements due to their richness in essential omega-3 fatty acids for the body's health. The World Health Organization recommends consuming 1-2 servings of fish every week to obtain the omega-3 fatty acids available in fish. However, if an individual cannot obtain the recommended amount of fish weekly, taking fish oil capsules can help provide sufficient omega-3.
