Egypt Ready to Establish a Water Station on the Euphrates River in Iraq

The Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources announced that an Egyptian delegation is prepared to visit Iraq to establish a large water station on the Euphrates River, similar to the Bahr Al-Bakar water station in Egypt. The Egyptian Ministry of Irrigation presented a report on the study of establishing a treatment plant in Iraq resembling the Bahr Al-Bakar treatment plant for purifying and desalinating water from the Euphrates River to address the water scarcity in three Iraqi governorates (Al-Nasiriyah, Al-Diwaniyah, and Basra). Egyptian Minister of Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aaty stated that, in light of previous agreements with Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani regarding the exchange of technical visits to benefit from Egyptian experiences in water management, Dr. Mohamed Heikal, consultant for the Bahr Al-Bakar water treatment plant, and Dr. Hussein Al-Jamal, director of the Drainage Research Institute, visited Iraq to study the proposals related to the treatment and reuse of water in Iraq.
