Thousands of residents of the city of Al-Kurdi in Dakahlia Governorate attended the funeral of 29-year-old "Mohamed Mohamed Abdelhamid Jabr," a driver who was killed by a supermarket owner following a dispute over the price of a cheese box. The victim intervened to resolve the disagreement between his cousin and the store owner, prompting the owner to chase him down the street and stab him in the chest with a knife, leading to his death.
Residents of Al-Kurdi gathered in the main street and in front of the mosque, waiting for the arrival of the body, standing for several hours until it arrived after the autopsy. Women ululated in greeting the body, calling him "the groom of paradise," noting that he was preparing his apartment in anticipation of marriage and settling down, but was killed before achieving his dream.
Thousands joined in the funeral procession and chanted slogans such as "There is no god but Allah, the martyr is the beloved of Allah," and "Retribution, retribution; Muhammad's right shall not be lost," while many relatives, neighbors, and friends broke into hysterical grief.
After the burial at the family cemetery, the victim's uncle, Hussein Ali, stated that there would be no condolences or mourning tents until they receive retribution for Muhammad. He addressed the mourners saying, "We will not take condolences for Muhammad until we obtain his right. You are all dear to me, but there will be no mourning until we get our right from the treacherous killer."
He told Al-Masry Al-Youm: "Muhammad was treacherously stabbed by the supermarket owner after he intervened to resolve a dispute between the merchant and his cousin. When I learned of the incident, I rushed to Mett Salsil Central Hospital and saw Muhammad between life and death. The doctor issued a referral for my nephew to the emergency hospital in Mansoura, but he died before the ambulance reached the city of Menia El Nasr, so the driver took him to the mortuary at Menia El Nasr Hospital."
The uncle demanded justice for his nephew and retribution from the perpetrator, stating, "All the people who attended are here because Muhammad was a respectable person, while the one who killed him is a thug who uses drugs. All that happened was that he intervened to rescue his cousin from the hands of the suspect, who wanted to buy the cheese at an unfair price. Muhammad removed him from the suspect's grasp to keep him safe, but the suspect followed him down the street and stabbed him in front of others."
The Director of Security in Dakahlia received a notification from the head of the Al-Kurdi police station regarding a brawl outside the supermarket in the city, which led the owner to stab a young man with a white weapon. The victim was transported to Mett Salsil Central Hospital in critical condition. Officers from the Al-Kurdi police station arrived at the scene and found Mohamed Mohamed Abdelhamid Jabr, 29, with a knife wound to the chest and in poor condition. The doctors decided to transfer him to the emergency hospital in Mansoura in an attempt to save his life, but he breathed his last on the way before reaching the hospital. The body was taken to Menia El Nasr Central Hospital, pending the return of the prosecutor.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that a verbal altercation erupted between one of the victim's relatives, who sells cheese in bulk, and the supermarket owner named "Mohamed H.A." The victim went to settle the dispute, leading to a confrontation with the store owner. He then left to take his cousin away from the situation, but the store owner approached him in the street and stabbed him with a knife on the left side of the chest, resulting in the injury that claimed his life.
The Al-Kurdi police were able to apprehend the suspect and the weapon used in the incident. A necessary report was filed and the case was referred to the public prosecutor for investigation.
