Volkswagen Recalls a Quarter Million Vehicles Due to Electrical Issues

Volkswagen has recalled 246,000 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport SUVs in the United States and Canada due to a fault in the electrical connections that could cause issues with airbags, windows, and brakes. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, damage to the vehicle wiring could lead to delayed airbag deployment, potentially injuring individuals inside the vehicle. The wiring issues may also result in other problems, including windows lowering on their own and inadvertent engagement of electronic parking brakes at low speeds, as reported by CNBC and seen by Al Arabiya Net.

The report noted that despite the recall, the company currently has no solution to this issue. However, Volkswagen will offer a program to compensate owners of the recalled vehicles. The recall includes models from 2019 to the latest version of the Volkswagen Atlas, as well as models from 2020 to 2023 of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.

Volkswagen is scheduled to notify owners and dealers by mail on May 10, 2022, if their vehicles are included in the recall. The company will also reach out to customers once a solution is available, allowing owners to bring their SUVs in for repairs. In the meantime, owners can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website to see if their vehicles are part of the recall by searching for their vehicle identification number.
