In Lebanon: A Citizen Steals from Himself!

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement: On June 20, 2022, a citizen (M.H., born in 1963) filed a complaint at the Saida Old Police Station in the Regional Gendarmerie Unit, claiming that an unknown person had broken in and stolen an amount of $140,000 and gold jewelry valued at $5,000 from his home located in the Al-Bawaba Al-Fawqa area of Saida.

As a result of immediate follow-up, the members of the Southern Information Branch found that the complainant's statement contradicted the facts revealed by the investigations, and it was confirmed that the amount did not belong to him but was deposited with him by several individuals for investment and profit-making purposes.

The involvement of his son, Sh.H. (born in 1998, Lebanese), was also suspected in the case. Consequently, a patrol from this branch arrested both of them in Saida, seizing $1,900 from (M.H.). Upon searching (Sh.H.)’s home, gold jewelry was found inside.

During questioning, the father confessed to concealing the aforementioned amount with his son—who was detained—and two other individuals for the purpose of stealing it, and that he attempted to mislead the investigation by creating a crime scene and claiming that his house had been robbed. It was also revealed that part of the stolen items, amounting to $31,000, had been handed over to another individual, and efforts are underway to arrest him.

The members of the Southern Information Branch managed to arrest two other individuals involved in this case: B.R. (born in 1972, Lebanese) and N.A. (born in 1978, Lebanese). A Toyota vehicle belonging to the first was seized, which contained $2,710, 800 Euros, a military handgun with a magazine, and 13 usable bullets.

The detainees, along with the seized items, were transferred to the relevant unit for legal action, based on the orders of the competent judiciary.
