Barcelona Club Reveals Nature of Fati's Injury

Barcelona Club announced in a statement the details of the injury sustained by their star Ansu Fati during the loss against Athletic Bilbao on Thursday, in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey. Fati suffered an injury to his left thigh, having entered in the second half and having to leave after just five minutes into the first extra time. Fati went straight to the locker room, and coach Xavi Hernandez replaced him with American player Sergiño Dest.

Barcelona stated regarding Fati's injury in a statement published on their website on Friday: "Fati is suffering from a biceps femoris injury in his left thigh, and tests will be needed to determine the full extent of the problem."

They added: "The young forward came on as a substitute in the second half of Thursday’s match against Bilbao in the Copa del Rey and had to withdraw from the match in extra time."

Barcelona did not disclose the duration of Fati's absence, but the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" indicated that the Spanish international player could be sidelined for up to two months based on preliminary information and assessment. Athletic Bilbao secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey after defeating their guest Barcelona 3-2, in a match that extended into extra time at the San Mamés Stadium in the round of 16.
