Recent hours have witnessed an alarming escalation in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, marked by reciprocal drone strikes. Russia launched drone assaults on the Ukrainian city of Odesa, while Moscow reported fatalities and injuries in the Republic of Tatarstan due to Ukrainian drone attacks. At the same time, Moscow claims to have targeted Ukraine's military and logistical facilities and raised concerns over the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant.
Russia Targets Ukrainian Facilities
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that over the past 24 hours, its forces launched attacks on logistics hubs and fuel, energy, and transport facilities utilized by Ukrainian forces, including drone assembly workshops and storage sites.
The ministry disclosed strikes also targeted temporary Ukrainian military positions and foreign mercenaries across 146 areas.
According to Russian claims, Ukrainian forces suffered losses of approximately 1,405 soldiers within the last 24 hours. Russian air defenses reportedly downed 902 Ukrainian drones, along with seven guided bombs and two U.S.-made 'Himars' missiles during the same period.
Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant at Risk
Alexey Likhachev, head of Russia's state-run nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, accused Ukraine of targeting diesel fuel trucks destined for the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. According to Moscow, the attack resulted in the deaths of two Russian soldiers and left others injured.
Likhachev warned that attacks on fuel supplies pose significant risks to the plant's safety, as it relies on diesel generators to cool nuclear fuel in the event of external power cuts.
Fatalities in Tatarstan Drone Attack
Tatarstan's presidency reported two fatalities and 14 injuries following a drone strike targeting industrial and civilian sites in the city of Nizhnekamsk. The attack damaged a vehicle, killing two occupants and critically injuring two others.
The city's mayor, Radmir Belyaev, confirmed the casualties and damage to infrastructure.
Earlier, a Ukrainian drone had hit an oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Russian authorities reported.
Odesa Attack Leaves Five Injured
In retaliation, at least five people were injured in a Russian drone strike on the southern Ukrainian city of Odesa on Sunday morning, according to Ukrainian officials.
Sergiy Lysak, head of Odesa's military administration, reported residential areas damaged across several districts, with authorities currently assessing the damages.
On Saturday morning, a Russian drone assault on a residential building in Odesa reportedly killed two people and injured 26 others.
The strategic port city of Odesa has faced ongoing Russian missile and drone assaults in recent months, disrupting major maritime trading routes.
Regional authorities stated that additional attacks occurred overnight in western Ukraine, though no civilian casualties were reported.
With frontline positions largely static, both Russia and Ukraine have intensified long-range aerial attacks in recent months. Kyiv targets Russian oil infrastructure and e-commerce warehouses, attempting to increase the economic toll of the ongoing conflict on Moscow.
