The name of Egyptian artist Shirin Abdel Wahab has resurfaced, stirring much controversy once again. Social media sites circulated a video of the "Ah Ya Layl" singer with a distended belly during a wedding celebration at the Baron Palace in Cairo yesterday, Thursday. The Egyptian star appeared singing one of her songs while wearing a tight black dress on the top and loose on the bottom, with the bridegroom dancing beside her. The surprise came when the bridegroom placed his hand on her belly, signaling the photographer to take a picture - a gesture typically made to indicate a woman's pregnancy - which raised many questions.
Meanwhile, social media users and activists wondered about the reason for this action and why Shirin did not get angry with him. They also questioned whether she was actually pregnant, especially since the video appears recent given the star's short hair. Others clarified that perhaps Shirin has gained weight due to her recent mental health crisis.
This video emerged just days after her striking and "shocking" appearance at the February Festival in Kuwait last Friday, where she also cried on stage. The "Ah Ya Layl" singer wore casual clothes consisting of black pants, a black sweatshirt, and white sneakers, which led to harsh criticism from many of her fans.
It's worth mentioning that Shirin's story with her ex-husband has led to widespread speculation recently, following news about the couple's possible reconciliation. Especially after event organizer Youssef Dandash announced a surprise statement on February 9, saying that the Egyptian artist had returned to her ex-husband, asserting that he was surprised by her call.
However, Shirin broke her silence shortly after and stated in a press release that all news circulating about her personal life is untrue, adding that she alone has the right to announce any details concerning her married life. It is notable that the Egyptian artist officially separated from her husband at the beginning of December last year after a marriage that lasted nearly four years. At that time, she stated that the conditions for a return to Hossam "require a miracle," denying reports attributed to her ex-husband’s father about negotiations for a reconciliation, describing them as lies and slander.
