Limited Government Chances… Surprises Depend on a Password

In the context of stances and comments regarding the renewed discussion about forming a government, Member of the "Renewal" Bloc, MP Adib Abdul-Masih, stated that "what is happening is a form of continuous pressure by the controlling system aimed at undermining the opposition," adding: "In our view, very clearly, this kind of system and authority does not want to form a government; if they were truly serious about forming a government, it would have been formed more than a month ago."

Regarding the reasons that prompted the revival of this issue after such a long absence, Abdul-Masih told "Al-Anbaa" electronic news: "We have become accustomed to this authority; when they want to close one file, they seek to open a new one. What happened serves as a pressure tactic to pass something." He noted that "the issue revolves around the presidential entitlement and sees no significance in forming a government, especially with the approaching presidential election phase."

He said: "The desire to form a new government may come within the context of discussions about delaying the presidential elections and the possibility of President Aoun remaining in Baabda, along with threats of a vacuum and the lack of parity." He added: "We, of course, as we dealt with the resigned government, have no trust in any similar government, which does not represent us, and we will not trust it," asserting that as independent MPs, they are ready to cooperate on a case-by-case basis in all matters that concern people's needs. He revealed that their discussions as independent MPs focused on developing a specific mechanism and new work agenda, noting that the initial circle of their meetings could expand to include all opposition factions.

For his part, MP Adnan Traboulsi, in a conversation with "Al-Anbaa," pointed out that the news is not encouraging, and there are no new developments, asking: "How can a new government be formed with the presidential entitlement looming? There is no time left," describing the situation as "complicated and not fitting together." He stated that there is nothing encouraging, with each side sticking to its conditions, and it seems the entitlement will not take place on schedule unless some miracle happens and there is consensus; thus far, the picture remains murky, and electing the President of the Republic requires the agreement of most parliamentary blocs. He added that if there is no agreement on a candidate's name, elections cannot take place.

It is understood from the leaked and announced atmospheres that the proposal to expedite the formation of a government through a last-minute cesarean birth at the end of the term has slim chances, even though Lebanon is a land of surprises and nothing is impossible, especially if there is some password within the political corridors.
