UAE Supports Efforts to Advance Peace Process in the Middle East

Ambassador Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al-Jarman, the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, confirmed the UAE's support for all regional and international efforts to advance the peace process in the Middle East according to the two-state solution, establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. This was stated in a speech by Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al-Jarman during the 30th special session of the Human Rights Council regarding the need to ensure respect for international human rights law and international humanitarian law in the Palestinian territories, including occupied East Jerusalem and Israel.

At the beginning of his speech, delivered via video conference, he called on "the Israeli authorities to de-escalate and preserve the religious and legal identity of occupied East Jerusalem." He emphasized the "sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the need to prevent the displacement of Palestinian families from Sheikh Jarrah."

The ambassador expressed the UAE's satisfaction with the statement issued by the Security Council on May 22, 2021, supporting the ceasefire reached by the conflicting parties. He stressed, in this context, the necessity of providing emergency assistance to those affected and responding to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' call for a comprehensive and strong support package for reconstruction and rapid, sustainable recovery that supports the Palestinian people and strengthens their institutions.

In conclusion, he called for continued diplomatic efforts to encourage both parties in the conflict to begin a serious negotiating process to build the necessary trust, ensuring security, stability, and a dignified life for both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples and the region.
