Syria has announced its support for China against any attempts to interfere in its internal affairs, expressing strong condemnation and absolute rejection of U.S. policies and the positions of its officials regarding the country.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported today that a responsible source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates confirmed Syria's solidarity with the People's Republic of China against any attempts to meddle in its internal matters. The source explained that while the previous U.S. administration intensified its hostile measures against the People’s Republic of China up until just before its departure, launching a barrage of condemnatory statements based on false and misleading claims regarding the Xinjiang region, some statements have emerged indicating the new U.S. administration's intention to continue the same hostile policy toward China by adopting the fabrications of former Secretary Pompeo, which constituted a serious interference in the internal affairs of this friendly country.
The source concluded by stating that the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic, based on the strong and historical friendship it shares with the People's Republic of China, expresses its strong condemnation and absolute rejection of U.S. policies and the positions of its officials toward China. It also reaffirms its commitment to the One China principle and stands by the People's Republic of China against any attempts to interfere in its internal affairs, which contradict the goals and principles of the United Nations Charter, especially regarding Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang.
It is noteworthy that former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo lifted all restrictions that had been imposed for years on communications between U.S. officials and Taiwan, less than two weeks before Donald Trump's term ended, a move that angered Beijing, which considers Taiwan an integral part of China. A statement from the Chinese mission to the United Nations affirmed that the United States will pay a heavy price for its wrongful actions, adding that China urges the United States to stop its reckless provocations and to refrain from creating new difficulties for Sino-American relations and cooperation between the two countries in the United Nations. China has warned the United States that it will make it pay a "heavy price" if U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft travels to Taiwan, as previously announced by the U.S. Department of State. The statement from the Chinese mission emphasized China's strong opposition to "this visit" and demanded that Washington "cease proceeding down the wrong path," stressing that China is one and Taiwan is merely a province of it.
