The Strongest Oil in Reducing Cholesterol

The Strongest Oil in Reducing Cholesterol

Olive oil is renowned for its properties that help lower harmful cholesterol levels in the blood, thereby reducing the risk of heart and artery diseases. However, according to a report published by the British "The Express," sesame oil may also serve as a natural competitor with similar health benefits, or perhaps even more impactful.

**Prevention of Heart Diseases**

Sesame oil is a naturally flavored oil rich in polyunsaturated fats like omega-3 and omega-6, which many scientific studies have proven contribute to reducing the risk of heart disease when used regularly in the diet as a substitute for saturated fat-containing items.

**Lowering Bad Cholesterol**

A study comparing the health benefits of olive oil and sesame oil found that sesame oil had a stronger impact on cholesterol levels. While both oils exhibited similar effects in increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, sesame oil had a more pronounced effect on decreasing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, which is harmful.

**Positive Results Within a Month**

Researchers divided volunteer participants into two groups, one consuming 60 grams (4 tablespoons) of oil daily to replace other dietary oils, while the second group consumed the same amount of sesame oil daily. After one month, cholesterol levels were tested, and results indicated that all participants, who were patients with high cholesterol and were not on any cholesterol-lowering medications, showed that the group consuming sesame oil had equal levels of good cholesterol, while their bad cholesterol levels decreased.

**Anti-inflammatory Properties and Arterial Narrowing**

Additionally, sesame oil is characterized by anti-inflammatory properties and has been used in traditional medicine for treating atherosclerosis and vasoconstriction, which are risk factors for serious cardiovascular diseases. The narrowing of blood vessels can lead to increased blood pressure and a heightened risk of obstruction that could result in heart attacks or strokes.

**Multiple Benefits of Sesame Seeds**

Sesame seeds are rich in fiber, proteins, and several vitamins that are not present in refined oil, but antioxidants can be obtained from both the seeds and the oil. Sesame seeds contain vitamin E and a group of chemicals called lignans, which include a type of phytoestrogen that provides strong nutritional benefits, along with sesamin, which helps reduce high blood pressure.

Some scientific studies, albeit on small samples, have shown positive effects of the oil on blood sugar levels among type 2 diabetic patients. However, it is important to note that studies conducted on sesame seeds and oil on a large scale have been limited to volunteer participants who are not taking any medication or other medical treatments. Therefore, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare provider before using sesame oil to address the aforementioned symptoms to avoid any adverse effects when used alongside medications.
